Beauty is in the Eye of the Owner
Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Furniture & Accessories - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 80
Finish Type: Gun Blu and Sculpt Nouveau Stain Clear Coat
Materials Used: Mild Steel
General Description: An excellent fit is imperative when fabricating, but when the client’s vocation is cataract surgery instruments, measurements have been elevated to a new level! The subject was a grape vine theme but not overwhelming, allowing a blazing fire to be enjoyed. A clean and simplified design was accomplished using a horizonal vine that also performed as the handles. Offsetting each end of the vines and plug welding them created comfortable handles and excluded the use of pull knobs. A fallen leaf on the lower left screen and a small display of grape leaves extends the theme onto the hearth and into the room. The frame was made from ¼” X 2” mild steel using texturing dies on a power hammer. The doors were made using the same technique from 1 ¼” X ¼” material. Pintle hinges were used and the doors aligned in the center. We used Gun Blu and satin clear coat by Sculpt Nouveau as the finish.

Forged Outdoor Bar Table Base
Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Furniture & Accessories - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 135
Finish Type: Raw Galvanization
Materials Used: Steel
General Description: This forged steel outdoor bar table base is inspired by rolling waves, designed for a beach house location. The design was shaped around a breathtaking 12' long curved curly maple slab provided by the customer, requiring a design that both followed the wood's natural curve and provided clearance for five stools. All components were forged and formed by hand before being welded and riveted together, with no straight lines in the design. The entire structure was assembled by eye, with minimal reference points to guide the process. The finish features hot-dip galvanization, left raw to develop a natural patina. A reinforced concrete footer beneath the tile anchors the table, secured with stainless steel fasteners.

Forged Tree Table Base
Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Furniture & Accessories - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 320
Finish Type: Hot wirebrushed steel and satin lacquer clear coat
Materials Used: 1/8" Steel Plate, solid round steel of various diameters
General Description: This table base was designed to support a large sectional cut of a petrified log recovered from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The customer (a husband and wife) found this sectional cut while on a trip to Wyoming approximately thirty years ago and had never found the right way to display it. After completing a similar structure as a chandelier, it was decided that a table base forged in the same vein would be an excellent way to both present and use this unique piece. With some excellent feedback from the customer, we were able to scale the work to the top and have it appear as if the tree had grown around the petrified wood top, for a truly unique presentation table.

Trumpet Vine Trellis Bench
Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Furniture & Accessories - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 150
Finish Type: Wirebrush with matte clear enamel topcoat
Materials Used: Hand forged steel and reclaimed wood
General Description: This commission was designed as both a bench and safety railing for the stairwell opening, so everything behind the bench had to meet 4” code. We started with the idea of a bench sitting in front of a section of railing. The bench was formed by Trumpet Vines “growing” out of the floor and then growing up to fill the openings above on the 1st to 2nd floor staircase. The bench is reclaimed wood and is a single piece of poplar that was /- 2 ½" thick and 16” wide.

Vine Ripened Bench
Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Furniture & Accessories - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 65
Finish Type: Brown paint and tinted glaze as topcoat
Materials Used: Vine textured steel bar
General Description: This client wanted a unique piece to fit against the curved wall of their front entry. The client worked with a designer who suggested a “vine” inspired bench. The width of the bench is 9 feet wide by 29” deep. We were not given much more direction than this. The bench required many hours of skillfully creating a freeform pattern by hot forming various sizes of vine textured round bar. We first painted the bench a dark brown, then we hand-applied a tinted glaze, highlighting the texture in the bar. “One off” projects like this are very time consuming and tedious for the fabricator. We involved the designer early in the process, getting approval at several stages, including after the finish was applied. As you know it is always up to the end customer and they were very happy.

Steel Pan Drum Reception Desk
Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Furniture & Accessories - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator/Architect Jointly
Total Labor Hours: 460
Finish Type: Mirror finish and blackened finish
Materials Used: Stainless steel
General Description: The steel pan drum concept and the general shape of the desk were provided by the designer. The top and sides were waterjet cut from 1/4" thick stainless steel. The front panel was made from 20ga stainless steel and was formed to shape and welded to the frame. Using leather sandbag, each circle was manually hammered to shape. It would have been impossible to stretch the sheet metal on the frame if it was already hammered. We used 1 ½” x 11ga tube to make a robust frame which can sustain the extra tension from the depressions formed on the panel. After fabrication and full welding, we spent weeks polishing to perfection. The bottom section was made from brushed finish stainless steel and blackened. This is a main feature at the entrance of a worldwide known firm.
