Bronze and Steel Corkscrew Railing

Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Interior Railings - Ferrous and Nonferrous - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 216
Finish Type: Hot wax
Materials Used: Steel and Bronze
General Description: This small but intricate railing features heavily forged elements, each starting as a distinct cross-section before transforming into its final form. The balusters begin as 1 1/2" octagonal sections at the base, then are forged into flat bars, twisted 45 degrees to attach to the bronze cap rail. Each baluster is individually mounted into the stair treads using epoxy. Every part of the railing, including the hardware, was custom forged and fabricated. The cap rail is forged bronze, with sweeping terminations at one end and a corkscrew design at the opposite end. The bronze handrail connections were silver soldered in the field for precision. The finish features a darkened patina on the bronze, with hot wax applied to all components for protection and aesthetic enhancement.

Interior Forged Railing

Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Interior Railings - Ferrous and Nonferrous - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 120
Finish Type: Prime/Paint- Satin Black
Materials Used: Forged Steel/Castings
General Description: This project was approximately 40 linear feet of custom railing. The panel that the clients chose for the pitched portion didn't come at an angle that would match their stairs and still meet code. Additionally, our supplier was backordered on the panels. To meet our client’s occupancy deadline, our fabricators had to cut apart and modify panels for the pitch and build more that matched exactly. Attention to detail with elements such as the hand forged lambs-tongue inlay are what really send this project over the top.

Textured iron interior railing and gates

Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Interior Railings - Ferrous and Nonferrous - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 300
Finish Type: Blackened, oiled and waxed
Materials Used: Iron, Metal oil and wax
General Description: These hand-forged steel gates and railing were custom-designed to complement the rustic charm of the client’s home. The 20’ railing included a 3’ gate installed at the top of a staircase, providing both beauty and function, and a 6’ gate was installed as a focal point in the kitchen as a pantry door. An intricate, one-of-a-kind design was crafted, featuring decorative pickets with a textured finish. Each piece of the railing — from the rails to the pickets to the post caps — was hand-forged and textured with a power hammer. Custom-made, forged and textured hardware, including a self-latching gate closure, was fabricated for a seamless finish. A clear metal oil and wax were applied as a protective layer, highlighting the natural steel finish. With each piece weighing several hundred pounds, great care was required to ensure a smooth installation. Once installed, these hand-crafted pieces were the perfect addition amplifying the home’s unique character.

Timber Frame Home Balustrade

Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Interior Railings - Ferrous and Nonferrous - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 425
Finish Type: Wirebrushed with matte clear enamel topcoat
Materials Used: Hand forged mild steel
General Description: This railing was forged from solid mild steel. The main newel posts’ upper sections are forged octagons made from 3-12" square stock and the bases are a built-up hollow form using plate and angle iron trim. The handgrips were 1-34" round solid forged to a 1-1/8” X 2” oval. 3/8” x 1-14" flat was twisted top and bottom to form the pickets, which were fastened with square head bolts and nuts. Grouse tailfeathers were an important motif for the client, so these were incorporated into the design and placed in windows at each newel post. The stringers were live edge Oak beams, so we had to design two-piece line newels that sandwiched the beam but kept the railing riding above it. The entire railing was /- 60 linear feet. Not shown at the second floor is a gate with machined latch leading to a ladder on one of the timber frame columns. The gate closes with a beautiful “Cha-Chunk”.

Wrought iron railing

Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Interior Railings - Ferrous and Nonferrous - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 1600
Finish Type: Painted
Materials Used: Mild steel
General Description: The scope included the main stairs and the railing on the 2nd floor. The main stairs curved from the 1st to the 2nd floor, then a short curving panel on the 1st floor, and another curved section from the 1st floor to the lower level. Most of the 2nd floor railing was straight except for the balcony overlooking the music room. Design for the main stairs railing is based on freshly picked flowers bunched in a simple bouquet arrangement, original and naturally flowing without posts but transitioning into a panel design with posts at level. Fabrication techniques: forging, hammering, and welding. The installation technique: mechanical. Challenge: A late addition of wood curbing on 2nd floor weakened considerably the base to secure the heavy ironwork and therefore we added vertical decorative brackets fastened to the facia board. Finish: painted with some selective ‘golden’ highlights to bring out three-dimensionality of the work.

A True Rococo Modern Jewelry

Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Interior Railings - Ferrous and Nonferrous - Forged
Designed by: Architect
Total Labor Hours: 2000
Finish Type: Patinas
Materials Used: Iron and Bronze
General Description: The sculptural architectural metal pieces in this project are truly exceptional, capturing the essence of Rococo design with meticulous attention to detail. Notably, the cast bronze Repoussé leaves and the stylized lily, inspired by the historic royal arms of France, exemplify neoclassical Gallic decorative ironwork. Within the property, the Interior Main Stair Railing stands as a testament to craftsmanship and artistry. At 38 inches in height, this railing is custom-designed and meticulously crafted from different gauges of iron. The Dixie handrail, a standout feature, is crafted from solid bronze, adding elegance. Decorative accents are precisely cast in sand-casting bronze. The railing is securely anchored to the floor with a robust plate, ensuring stability and aesthetic continuity. Electrostatic paint highlights its beauty, while a natural patina adds authenticity to the bronze surface. This Interior Main Stair Railing is not merely a functional element; it is a work of art that seamlessly combines form and function.

Strident Wisp

Is this a joint venture: No
Category: Interior Railings - Ferrous and Nonferrous - Forged
Designed by: Fabricator
Total Labor Hours: 200
Finish Type: Polyurethane enamel
Materials Used: Square and rectangle tubing. Square and rectangle hot rolled flats.
General Description: Customer wanted an all metal scroll type railing for stairs and balconies. The client’s design specifications were “not too busy or repetitive and not too many scrolls and it needs to be open and flowing”. We used as many mechanical joints as possible and the rest was interior tig welding. The most difficult part is getting a continuous rectangle curved handrail to do what you want.
