    1. Purpose

       

      The purposes of the Certification Program are:

       

      1. Promote professional development in the industry.

      2. Improve public safety.

      3. Provide superior service to our clients by ensuring quality control, superior products, and adherence to best p

2.0 General

 

The Shop Certification program is overseen by the Certification Task Force, which is a program of the NOMMA. NE which supports their strategic plan.

3.0 Prequalifications

 

To qualify, a company must have a physical premises and must show that they do ornamental and miscellaneous m following qualifications:

 

  1. Company must be in business for 2 years or the principal must have been a member of a professional metalw

  2. Provide letters of recommendation from three clients or industry professionals.

  3. Submit proof of general liability insurance and workers' comp coverage.

  4. At least one company representative must pass the Basic Accreditation exam and be currently on staff.

  5. Company must allow a physical site inspection from a designated NOMMA team.

 

In addition, it is strongly recommended that a shop:

 

  1. Be a NOMMA member.

  2. Display the NOMMA banner in the shop.

  3. Subscribe to and display the NOMMA code of ethics.

  4. Subscribe to the NOMMA ListServ.

    -Protecting for transfer.

5.0 Maintaining Accreditation

Shop must earn 3.0 CEUs within a 3-year period. These can be earned by participation in chapter meetings, sanctioned events.

 

  1. Certifications

     

    Once Basic Accreditation is earned a company can obtain additional certificates. A combination of Shop and Individ Silver, and Gold levels.

     

    Certification programs from other organizations, such as ABANA, AWS, DASMA, and AISC, may be used as credit. The following certification types will be available:

    1. Basic Installation & Onsite Care. Anchoring/fastening.

    2. Red Metals

      Handling/cutting. Forming/curving. Welding joints.

      Assembly methods (brazing, soldering, mechanical).

       

      Note: NEF videos may be used to help prepare students for the test.

       

      1. Aluminum

      2. Stainless.

      3. Forging (could be partnered with ABANA)

         

      4. Glass Railings.

         

      5. Cable Rail.

         

      6. Advanced Finishes.

       

  2. Resources

     

    The NOMMA/NEF program encourages fabricators to also obtain certification from other recognized organizations. provide information on other programs.

     

    If a shop also earns AISC and AWS designations, these will be listed in their member profiles.

     

    1. AWS D1.1.

    2. AISC.

    3. IDEA Gate Operator Installer Certification.

    4. ABANA Forging Program.
